"So Much Water"
"So Much Water"
handwoven tapestry

The beauty of the River, it's meaning and value, are reflected in this tapestry. Water, rolling, flowing, carrying silt, pebbles, leaves, animals, fish and birds; circumscribing the landscape; each drop, part of the whole The journey of the river is an apt metaphor for our lives. The element of water is a substance so close to our own being that without it, we are not. Poets write about it, singers honor with liquid sound the passage and flow. In this tapestry, I try to express the vibrancy and necessity of one of our most important resources. As poet Claudia Schmidt writes,
" Replenish!
We go on, we go on,
Canoe under the hot sun,
The upturned paddle guides liquid to our dry mouths.
Water within us, water surrounds us,
A great mystery our becoming dry at all.
Replenish, replenish, all must be replenished
The water within and without.
All that fills us, all that surrounds us: The great whistling pines,
The tenacious beaver,
The ancient loon,
The rush of the young eagle's wing as it
Dips low over our canoe.
Replenish!"

I am happy to announce that "So Much Water" has been exhibited at the American Tapestry Biennial 15, Epiphany Center for the Arts, Chicago, Ill; and Art Comes Alive! at the ADC Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio from November 15, 2025-January 15, 2026
